The Chinese Academy of Memphis has
launched an after-school Chinese education program at White
Station High School.
The academy is a nonprofit organization operated by local
Chinese language professors, high-tech advisers and
researchers from Rhodes College, University of Memphis, FedEx,
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and other volunteers. It
is sponsored by Rhodes College, and advised by educational
specialists in Chinese language and culture.
Working with the
Chinese students association at White Station High School, the
academy's program has been approved by the Memphis Board of
Education. Shelby County Board of Commissioners showed its
support by sending a congratulation letter to the program's
opening ceremony.
The courses opened this semester are CHL-4 (Chinese as a
Heritage Language for level 4) and CSL-1 (Chinese as a
Secondary Language for beginners). The classes are full.
